LIVES AND TIMES OF THE 346
Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge locomotive #346 has enjoyed
many lives. Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1881, it operated throughout
Colorado for nearly 70 years, surviving wrecks, rebuilding, and renumbering.
Colorado Railroad Museum founder Robert W. Richardson saved it from the
scrapper's torch for a new life delighting museum visitors. This survivor
of more than a century is viewed in historic photos and plenty of current
action, including the seldom-seen process of "firing up". Proceeds from the
sale of this video help provide for the continued maintenance of the #346
and other museum exhibits.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN SNOWPLOW
This is a look at the rarest event in all of railroading... the operation
of a steam-powered rotary snowplow to open a snowbound railroad. Here we
see the Cumbres & Toltec's Rotary OY at work in 1997 as it and three
2-8-2 steam locomotive assault 10,015-foot Cumbres Pass. While most rotary
runs recently have been under gray skies, the sun was out for this one, and
many glorious scenes were captured as the plow fights up over buried Windy
Point to Cumbres Pass and beyond. Action from locations accessed by snowmobile,
on board a special photography train, and the cab of one of the locomotives.
After 3 days of fantastic plowing, everything comes to a stop, as there is
a huge boulder sitting squarely on the tracks.

ROTARY ON THE RIO GRANDE NARROW GAUGE
In 1975 and 1976 the Cumbres & Toltec fired up Rio Grande Rotary OM.
These two snowplow adventures run out of Chama during the late winter and
inspired many to chase and photgraph the events. But none covered it as well
as noted photographer Emery Gulash. In this DVD you will witness the re-creation
of the Rio Grande snow trains made famous in the history of the narrow gauge
line: bucking snow drifts, backing up and hitting 'er hard again to break
the packed snow, powerful showers of snow flinging out the snow chute and
burying anything in the snow shower's path. Emery captured some of the most
beautiful snow scenes ever filmed on Colorado narrow gauge. Locos 492 (a
class K-37), 487 and 483 (class K-36s) do the honors in this film.
